THE ANALOGY OF LEAVING THE ORGANIZATION OF JWs
by PublishingCult incan you give an analogy of what it was like (for you personally) leaving the organization of jehovahs witnesses?.
for me, it was very much like the story of mountain climber aron ralston.
the canyon wall of the narrow passage was the watchtower bible & tract society.

Great analogy! Especially the part about how we may have to part with something we considered valuable but it is better than sacrificing our life. I do feel like I have lost something important to that organization, but at least I didn't give them everything and I am getting on with my life. Great Thinking!!
The analogy I have used is that leaving the JW's is like leaving the Mafia. Once a person commits they are in for good--one way or another--we never escape. Some of us may manage to fly under the radar but others of us will eventually be hunted down and exterminated.

Interesting. The Jw's would say Satan's influence is expanding because he knows his end is near.
I enjoyed The Rite--but then Anthony Hopkins makes everything better.

Keeping JW's as Friends - Healthy? - New Awake Article
by GOrwell inkidding about that awake article title - i know it sounds like the title of an awake article, please forgive me :).
but seriously, do you think it's healthy to maintain friendships with people who are jehovah's witnesses?
when is it time to "move on," even if they don't seem to want to?.

If they are willing to remain friends without any pressure to re-associate, then I say "Don't fix what aint broke." Enjoy their association but also start expanding your association so when/if they decide you are bad association you have other friends to fall back on. They are the ones that practice exclusion, not us.

Have you REALLY changed?
by AK - Jeff ini don't get around to visit this board very often these days.
still, when i do, i always come across a thread or two by former jw's who are now church members.
they don't look any different to me than jw's in so many ways:.

I hear ya'. I am surprised when people go to another church. But I have a friend I met in pioneer school who is now df'd and a firm believer in science, and evolution. She is currently trying to make butt-loads of money because she hopes to live long enough until nano-technology gets perfected and can replace human cells thereby creating longer, possibly eternal, lives. She figures she will need a lot of money to buy the technology to lengthen her life. Sounds to me like she has just found another road to everlasting life.
Maybe it is so hard for some people to give up on their old beliefs they have to find replacements. I, for one, can't believe in anything right now...

Seems the Watchtower is becoming more pushier / cult-ier...
by garyneal indid anyone have to endure the wt study today at the kh?
i did and boy it was a doozy.
saying things like "christendom deserved destruction for misleading people spiritually...." talking about false prophets, etc... the irony of all of this is that their judgements on christendom apply to them.

I always think it is so funny when the WBTS points out Christendom's hatred of God's name. Do you know why they hate it? Because it has become identified part and parcel with Jehovah's Witnesses. Before JW's, in the 1800's, it was used widely by Christendom's churches.
So, by being obnoxious, JW's have actually managed to blacken Jehovah's name all by themselves. They are the ones bringing reproach upon it.

It was like a train wreck. I wanted to turn away from the slaughter but I couldn't stop watching. Definitely home-schooled, probably Mormons on "family night".

A frog in boiling water?
by hoser ini don't know where i've heard it before(perhaps from a circuit overseer talk) but someone associated with jehovahs witnesses made the analogy.
that if you put a frog in a pot of boiling water it will jump out immediately, but if you put the same frog in a pot of cold water and slowly heat it up.
the frog will not notice the gradual temperature change and will cook to death.. the overseer or elder used this illustration as a warning to say that gradual changes in morals around us- we will not notice and get cooked alive.

First time I heard it was from a movie: Dante's Peak. I have heard it used from the platform, but it was after that movie. I didn't realize it was a fallacy. Good to know....
